Hello and welcome to Philly dances where we talk about all of the awesomeness that is a part of Philadelphia's amazing dance community. I'm Emily and today I want to talk to you about Halloween costumes. So what are you going to be this year for Halloween? It's coming up pretty soon and if you don't know yet, don't worry. Because you guys are dancers, you actually already have a lot of stuff in your closets and dance bags that you can use to create a really cool costume. I've been brainstorming and Googling and and thinking of ideas for ways that you can use what you already own to put together something really, really cool. I'm sure if you start digging through your closets and your bags, you will start getting lots of great ideas on your own. But let me share with you what I've been thinking about some of the ideas that I came up with. I know that all of you probably already own a black leotard and some tights. There's a lot you can do with a black leotard. It might seem simple but all it takes is a few accessories and you can be just about anything you want. Maybe the most obvious one for Halloween would be a witch. You guys put on your black leotard and your tights and maybe you can find some funky striped socks to wear with it and a witch hat. I guarantee you that just about any store you go to right now will have a witch hat that you can buy. If you want to take it a little bit further, you can put on some green makeup and maybe put some kind of wart on your face and you will be an awesome, witch. Another idea is you could be a cat. All you need to do to turn your black Leo into a cat costume is go get some cat ears and maybe make a cat tail and take an eyeliner pen and draw some whiskers and a cute little nose on your face. Now you're a cat. Another idea is you could be a butterfly. In particular a Monarch butterfly. You could go buy a pair of butterfly wings that are orange and black and then get a headband that has cute little antennas sticking up off of it and now you're a butterfly. I know that you guys also have a lot of colored leos in your dance bag and closets, so you could use them for some really cool ideas too. One thing you could do if you had something that's really brightly colored is you could be in 1980s aerobics instructor. This would work especially awesome if you had some crazy patterned or colored or tights and some leg warmers. Get yourself a sweatband for your forehead, a couple for your wrists, tease your hair up really big and you, my friends are an aerobics instructors straight out of the 1980s. If you own a white leo, I have a really awesome idea for you. You could be princess Leia from star Wars. My favorite thing about this idea is you get to wear double buns. I know you guys are totally experts at putting your hair up in buns, so why not show that off with to put on your white leo, put up the double buns, get yourself a cute white skirt and some cute furry snow boots and you become princess Leia. If you want to dress up with your friends because hey, isn't everything better with friends? You guys could each put on a different colored leo and become M&M's. This one's pretty easy. All you need to do is put a letter M on the front of your leo. You could cut M's out of paper and stick them on. You could use some kind of a fabric marker. Now, of course, doing that might be permanent and then you would forever have an M&M leotard, but it might be worth it. One way in which dancers are particularly lucky when it comes to Halloween costumes is that you guys actually already have a closet full of costumes. The easiest thing that you could be for Halloween would be a dancer. I know that's probably not your favorite idea. It's probably seems a little boring, but you have all of these old dance recital costumes. You could pull them out of storage and put them to good use for Halloween. If you're not into the idea of being a dancer for Halloween, you could actually take that old costume, rip it up a little bit, put some dirt on it, some fake blood and become a zombie dancer. How cool would that be? The other thing that's really cool about being a zombie dancer is that you get to go crazy with your makeup. You can put tons of dirt, blood, eyeliner, scars and of course you've got to totally mess up your hair and make it look all gross and disgusting. I think that's a great idea. Somebody got to do that. Somebody has to be zombie dancer this year for Halloween. I'll bet that you guys also have some costumes in your closet that kind of have a theme, so like maybe you have an old flappers style costume or maybe something that's sort of like from the 1950s sock hop. We actually have a baseball dance costume from a recital a couple of years ago. I think if you go and look through what you already have, there could be a lot of good possibilities there in your closet. I hope you guys have a lot of fun stuff planned for this Halloween. I love Halloween. It's a great holiday. It's so much fun and I hope you also get to dress up for dance class with your friends this year. I hope you have great weather so that you can go trick or treating outside and get tons and tons of delicious candy. Whatever you decide to dress up as, take lots of pictures and share them with us all. I cannot wait to see what you guys come up with. Happy Halloween.
